Reading and writing are skills that require advanced proficiency in encoding speech sounds into letters and decoding letters into sounds. Most prior work on reading/writing has largely focused monosyllabic words.

In contrast, our lab tackles the processing of polysyllabic words. We examine what perceptual units are used during reading/writing, how readers assign stress to polysyllabic words, and what causes some individuals to experience difficulty in reading (dyslexia) and writing (dysgraphia).
